Bruno Mars

This is what I am listening to now. I think Bruno is one of the more talented artists to arrive on the scene in a long time. You may have heard Bruno on two of the hottest 2010 summer songs: Nothing on You w/ B.o.B. and Billionaire w/ Travis McCoy. What many people may not know is that young Bruno, 25, has been a successful songwriter and producer for sometime now. He was partially responsible for the success of K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag song, for example. Prior to this, he was the youngest Elvis Presley impersonator (check out this youtube clip).

Bruno recently released his own solo album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, which is one of the best albums of the year, in my opinion. Now, the Grammy nominations will be revealed tonight (December 1st), and though Bruno’s album won’t be nominated due to its late release date, which makes it ineligible for 2010 Grammy consideration, I expect Bruno to be nominated for Best New Artist. I may even bet that he’ll win; or, at least, he should win.

Anyway, here’s Bruno’s latest hit: Grenade.

  1. I don't find his solo artist stuff to be all that impressive, aside from “Nothing On You”, but he has accumulated a nice little CV as a writer/producer. He also co-wrote Cee-Lo's “F*** You”, which has probably been my favourite song this year.

    Thanks for commenting Eurasian.

I disagree that Bruno's collaborations have been better than his solo work. I like his solo stuff and his collaborations. Nonetheless, he's quite talented.
