25 Year Old Song Banned for Homophobic slur

The popular song “money for nothing,’ by Dire Straits has been banned for its use of the word “fag.”

The song is quite popular and has been since it was first released in 1985. It has played on commercial radio without incident until recently. The specific lyric is as follows: “that little faggot,” in the second verse.

The song was banned after a listener in Nova Scotia filed a complaint with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council, complaining about the lyric.

In protest, many radio stations in parts of Western Canada have continued to play the unedited version.
