Enslavement in Vancouver

I am late. This story has been around since May apparently, but it’s worth repeating. It seems a woman in Vancouver,  Mumtaz Ladha, is charged with trafficking after a young African woman, reportedly escaped from her house and told the police that she had been lured from Africa with the promise of a job, then had her passport taken away and then forced, by Ladha, to work in her home without pay and little food.

Ladha, a wealthy Vancouverite, and Muslim, practiced domestic servitude, which is common in her native Tanzania.
